Summary

This book is about a man who abandons his life at home, and leaves everything else behind to go into the wilderness of Alaska. Eventually he died of starvation and his body was found by wild moose hunters. He went into the wild with a gun, a camera, and a small supply of food which he dropped along the way. It is possible that he was following in the footsteps of characters from novels written by his favorite authors

A Place I want to go to

If there was any place in the U.S. that I would want to go to, I would go to Gettysburg, PA. Gettysburg is the site of the battle which is consiodered the turning point in the American Cival War in 1863. To get there, I would just bug my dad to drive me, since I am not of driving age and it is only an hour away. What I would need to take totally depends on the time of the year. The climate is almost identical to the one here is Baltimore. Personaly, I would go in the summer time. Gettysburg itself was not one single battle. There were several battles within the battle such as; Little Round Top, Big Round Top, Culp's Hill, Seminary Ridge, and the famous battle on the third and last day of battle called Pickett's Charge. Once I got there, I would tour the many battlefields. I would walk the footsteps of the Confederate soldiers under the command of George Pickett, and visit the marker which marks the place of death for Confederate General Lewis Armistead. I would visit Little Round Top, the site where a small regiment from Maine, the 20th Maine Regiment, which consiste of about 300 men halted the Confederate advance with a bold bayonet charge. The place that mosts interests me is Devil's Den. Much rough, hand-to-hand combat took place here. It was difficult to defend, attack, and retreat from.

Summary

Direct Characterization- in literature and drama, the method of character development in which the author simply tells what the character is like, according to dictionalry.com
Indirect Characterization- drawing conclusions from what has been previously stated by the authore about a specific character

Direct characterization-
smallish with a hard stringy physique, of an itinerant laborer
Indirect-
he looked hungry, arrogant, stubborn

My brief opinion of Chris McCandless is that he is insane. He has the lifestyle and background that everyone dreams of, and he throws it all away to live the lives of fictional characters portrayed by his favorite authors. If he wants to do this, he should first take necessary preparations. McCandless in my opinion is very stubborn and arrogent because he denies most of the help offered. h

Google Earth Trip reaction

The students get major kudos from me. It must have taken a lot of time to find, locate a research all of those places. They must have read the book over and over again, or used the Internet a lot. It is a great background for every place that Chris went to. It gives Chris' history there, as well as general background. A very god program over all.
